Weymouth is a picturesque village of rolling hills, restored homes and established family businesses built near the mouth of the Sissiboo River, where the river meets St. Mary’s Bay. The road follows the gentle slope of the riverbank, and in summer and fall, is canopied by large maple trees that provide a natural tunnel for visitors driving through the village. On either side of this provincially designated Evangeline Trail, are reminders of the rich history of Weymouth, magnificent Victorian or Georgian homes, many restored to their previous glory and painted in the popular ‘heritage’ colours of the day.

Since the settlement of United Empire Loyalists in 1783, Weymouth has been culturally and geographically diverse. The rolling country roads will take you along the Sissiboo River and through woodland where lumberjacks and shipwrights thrived in the 1800s.

Celebrate Acadian CultureThis area does not only offer dramatic beauty of ocean views, it is the home of Nova Scotia's largest Acadian population. You will often hear Acadian French being spoken, a distinct dialect with many old-French words. The bilingual inhabitants along this shore are descendants of the first European settlers, who came from France in the early 1600s. After the Expulsion of 1755, many of Nova Scotia's Acadians came to this area years later to build new communities, turning to the sea for their livelihood. You’ll see Stella Maris - the Acadian flag – flying from many of the houses. You can recognize this flag by the tricolours with a single star in the blue portion, representing their patron Saint Maria.

Its unique location on a tidal river, nestles in a valley gives it an 'out of this world' feel. With a large artist population there are many artist studios to visit and it is home of the 'Flight of Fancy' - one of the best art galleries in Nova Scotia.

This little village offers a different pace of life. There are no traffic lights, no fast food restaurants, no box stores, and people have time for a talk.
